📜 What is Fidya?
Fidya (also called Fidyah) is a compensation payment for those who cannot fast during Ramadan due to permanent reasons — such as chronic illness, old age, or pregnancy/breastfeeding with no hope of making up the fasts later.
Allah says in the Qur’an: “…and upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] – a ransom [Fidya] of feeding a poor person [for each day not fasted]…” (Qur’an 2:184)
Amount: Feeding one poor person for each missed day — approximately [AMOUNT] per day, based on the cost of two average meals or one Saa’ of staple food.
✅ Who Should Pay Fidya?
- Chronic illness: Conditions where fasting would cause severe harm or is medically inadvisable
- Advanced age: Elderly individuals physically unable to fast
- Pregnancy/breastfeeding: If there is genuine fear for mother or child’s health AND no realistic opportunity to make up fasts later
- Permanent disability: Conditions that prevent fasting indefinitely
⚠️ If you expect to recover and make up missed fasts later, you should fast when able — Fidya is not required. Consult a qualified scholar for personal guidance.
