📘 Complete Zakat Guide 2026

Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam — obligatory for every Muslim whose net assets have exceeded the Nisab threshold for a full lunar year (Hawl).

Nisab Threshold 2026

85g
Gold (~$5,000)
595g
Silver (~$400)

How to Calculate Your Zakat

  1. Add up all eligible assets — savings, gold, silver, shares, rental income
  2. Subtract immediate debts and liabilities
  3. Check if the total exceeds the Nisab threshold
  4. Pay 2.5% of the net total as your Zakat

Worked Example

Savings: $10,000 · Debts: $2,000 · Net wealth: $8,000
Zakat due: $8,000 × 2.5% = $200

Types of Islamic Giving

  • Zakat al-Mal — Obligatory 2.5% on eligible annual savings above Nisab
  • Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) — Approximately $7 per family member, given before Eid al-Fitr
  • Sadaqah Jariyah — Ongoing voluntary charity (wells, schools) earning continuous reward
  • Kaffara — Expiation for intentionally breaking a fast: feed 60 people or fast 60 consecutive days
  • Fidya — One meal per missed fast day for those unable to fast due to illness or old age

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Can I specify how my Zakat is used?
Yes, you can specify a project during checkout in the Order Notes field. We will allocate your Zakat to the most relevant eligible project.
What is the difference between Zakat and Sadaqah?
Zakat is obligatory — 2.5% of eligible savings held above Nisab for a full lunar year. Sadaqah is voluntary and can be given at any time, in any amount, for any beneficial cause.
Can I pay my Zakat in instalments?
Yes. You may split your Zakat across multiple payments, provided the total amount is fully given before the end of the lunar year.
How do I know my donation reaches its destination?
We work exclusively with verified local partners. Every distribution is documented with photos, videos and beneficiary records. Annual audits are publicly available on our Transparency Portal.
What is the Fitrana amount for 2026?
The Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) for 2026 is set at $7 per person in the household. It must be given before the Eid prayer on Eid al-Fitr.
What is Kaffara and how much should I pay?
Kaffara is the expiation for intentionally breaking a Ramadan fast. The options are: fast 60 consecutive days, or feed 60 people one full meal each. Fidya (for those unable to fast) is one meal per missed day.
